Victims and Perpetrators

by Philip Jonkers

When something goes wrong, there are two familiar classes involved people belong to; there is the casualty- or victim class and there is the causal – or perpetrator class. In some cases some people clearly belong to the victim class while other people clearly can be said to be the perpetrators. The human ego has an overwhelming preference for wanting to belong to the victim class. Relatively rarely are people who are grounded in ego willing to admit that they are the perpetrators. What is perhaps at least equally rarely admitted is that people may also belong to a mixed class, i.e. that they are victims as well as perpetrators.
